Last of the Big Spenders

A major earthquake destroys an entire city in Italy, tens of thousands are homeless and no one is sure how many are dead, and the United States is there to help.

Right?

Just barely. President Barack Obama has authorized $50,000 in emergency aid.

That's right. A guy who can't spend enough money at home, who spares no critical word of America's shortcomings on his current European tour, figures America should start cutting back on that pesky disaster aid crap.

What's wrong with L'Aquila, Mr. Obama? Do you bear some sort of hateful grudge against it because it's an old medieval-style town? Is it too Catholic? Too European? (Pay attention, Notre Dame officials! Is this the guy you want exemplifying your values on commencement day?)

Sending nothing, at least, would have been honest. Fifty-thousand dollars is an insult, just enough for you to claim that you had "skin in the game," I suppose.

I don't want to hear another stinkin' word about Dubya and Katrina from those people.
