Where is Dan Boren on Cap & Tax?
While the nation's media is focused on events in Iran, the pseudo-tensions with North Korea and the Obamatrons push for government-run health care, our greatest peril begins on Friday as the House takes up the "Cap and Tax" bill.
There aren't a lot of details coming out about the "consensus" reached between factions in the Democratic party. The one thing you can bet is that there are few, if any, conservative ideals promoted in this legislation.
And it's likely that the House progressives will have the votes to pass it on to the U.S. Senate.
This would be the best time to stop "cap and tax" but it will require putting some heat on the so-called Blue Dogs like Rep. Dan Boren of Oklahoma's Second District, who as far as we can tell has said next to nothing about "cap and tax."
He's made some noises in recent days about protecting Oklahoma's independent oil and gas producers, and that is all well and good as someday we're really gonna need them badly. But protecting an industry important to your state doesn't go far enough, Congressman Boren. You need to protect the citizens of your district -- as well as all over America -- from a draconian set of regulations that will harm the finances of millions of Americans.
What will the cost to the average household become for electricity and heat?
Candidate Obama said, "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates will necessarily skyrocket."
Even under the supposedly improved Waxman-Markey bill, the Heritage Foundation estimates that national Gross Domestic Product will drop in the trillions, raise a family's annual energy bill by an average $1,241, and drive much of what is left of our manufacturing firms overseas.
And the insult to us all: Waxman-Markey will have essential zilch-zero-nada impact on global warming, assuming that there is any warming to impact. (Which, I might point out, may well be their calculation. If we are headed into a period of natural cooling brought on by sun cycles, they will point to the lowered temperatures and say, "Look what we accomplished!")
If you are not a fan of big government, you should not support Waxman-Markey. It will put Uncle Sam's bureaucrats in control of your thermostat. Not immediately, mind you, but it's promotion of a "smart grid" will eventually tell the vast majority of Americans exactly how warm or cool they will be.
I ask again: Where is Dan Boren on this bill? I've been to his web site. I've sent e-mails only to receive form letter answers from staff members. If he is as namby-pamby on Waxman-Markey as he is on health care reform, God help us all!
