Feast Day of Blessed Kateri

For Catholics, today is the feast day of Blessed Kateri, the first Native American to be so honored. Known as the "Lily of the Mohawks," she lived a short life of virtue and holiness, despite ridicule and rejection of her people for her conversion to Christianity.

She was beatified in 1980 by Pope John Paul II. Her case for canonization -- to be placed on the list of formally recognized saints -- continues.

If you are interested in more details, you can find them HERE.

As a Cherokee and Catholic, I find her life story fascinating.
