Bush selects Harriet Miers

Not Harriet Nelson. She would be next in an alphabetical listing of people named Harriet who haven't been seen much in public these days.

Harriet Miers is Dubya's White House counsel and former personal lawyer. Also a Texan. Also a legal mystery to friend and foe alike. Not a judge, ever.

Haven't taken a temperature check of the usual suspects but we figure liberals to be in prevent mode hysterics pretty quickly, and conservatives to be in an underwhelmed and borderline surly mood. Our take? Too early to tell, but would have preferred a good ideologically sound candidate -- read that a candidate that everyone knows is going to disgust the libs -- since it's likely that the fight is on this time, regardless.

The Llama Butchers are pointing out an eerie similarity between Harriet Miers and another powerful mystery figure we have come to know.
