Good news - bad news today

The good news: Canadian health officials have decided the disease that has killed 16 nursing home patients in Toronto is Legionaire's Disease. (By the way, that's American Legionaires disease, not French Foreign Legionaires disease. Give credit where credit is due.)

The bad news: a FedEx plane carrying small amounts of a flu virus from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay crashed and burned today.

A cargo plane carrying small amounts of flu virus crashed on railway tracks near Winnipeg's city center Thursday, killing the pilot but missing buildings and vehicles, authorities said.

The research samples of frozen influenza and herpes viruses were destroyed in the crash and ensuing fire along with other freight, Federal Express spokeswoman Karen Cooper said.

Predictably officials say the virus was destroyed in the fire and all our cares and worries are behind us now.
