Obama's Tax Solution: Let Big Brother Do It for You

American taxpayers, The Obama has heard your cries of pain.

And if you think things are bad now, just listen to how he is going to solve it for you. From the Wall Street Journal:
"I want every American to know that we will rewrite the tax code so that it puts your interests over any special interests," Mr. Obama said. "And we'll make it easier, quicker and less expensive for you to file a return, so that April 15th is not a date that is approached with dread every year."
What's the plan?

The IRS will do your taxes for you.

If you have a refund, they'll automatically put it into your bank account.

If you owe more, they'll automatically take it out of your bank account.

What could be simpler, and less private, than that?

Under the "Simple Return" plan, the Internal Revenue Service would complete tax returns for taxpayers whose sole income comes from one employer and whose interest income comes from one bank. The IRS would then send a copy of the return to the taxpayer. If the first wave of the program worked well, it could be expanded to other taxpayers.

Mr. Goolsbee has estimated the plan would save as many as 225 million hours of tax-preparation time and more than $2 billion a year in tax-preparation fees. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the White House is "studying the implementation" of the campaign proposal.

Most Americans do not want the IRS having any more control of our lives than it does already. This would eliminate what little vestige of the term "voluntary" still remains with our tax code. (Nevermind what this would do to people who make their livings as accountants, tax preparers, TurboTax, etc.)

If ever the time had come for a particular idea, it is now: the Fair Tax proposal that would eliminate income and corporate taxes and tax consumption instead.

Coupled with that should be a call that all deficit spending cease. The government should live within its means, just as should all Americans. The big problem today isn't the rate of taxation, it's the rate of out of control spending that will eventually lead either to greater taxation or the total collapse of the American dollar.

Wouldn't you know that an administration that believes in Big Government solutions to all problems would figure that our tax protests are an opportunity to let Big Brother take complete control of our lives!
