It's a good job if you can get it

Poor William Jefferson. His New Orleans home threatened by rising waters. His personal belongings at risk. Like scores of thousands in this flooded city, he must have been suffering terrible anxieties.

But unlike the other thousands, William Jefferson found a way to rescue his valuables.

He commandered the National Guard to take him to his home under armed escort.

No, Mr. Jefferson is not a military commander.

He's a United States congressman, a Democrat, and a member of the powerful Ways & Means committee.
