Two out of three ain't good

China is officially reporting its first bird flu deaths from the H5N1 virus. Three took ill: two females, ages 12 and 24, both died. A male, 9, has recovered.

That's a 66.7% mortality rate, about par for this disease so far.

China initially insisted there was no bird flu among humans within its borders. How many others are sick but officially undocumented we may never know.
