Worth every stinkin' penny?

Congress helped itself to a cost of living raise Friday, about $3,100 per member.

It was a moment of bipartisan unity. The bill containing the raise, among other expenditures, passed 392-31. (The Associated Press in its lead paragraph makes sure that you know it was the Republican-controlled Congress that did the dirty deed. As if the Democrats had nothing to do with it.)

Moments like these remind us why you can't really trust either major political party to do the right thing.

But you can't sit on your hands at election time either. Doing so just gives them a green light to do their worst.

So it's the lesser of the evils and the devil take the hindmost.

Sigh.
